Recently Sevier County 4-H members sent 125 care packages to membersof the Howitzer Battery of the 2/278th National Guard Unit now deployed inIraq.  Lt. Brian Powell was the recipient of one of the care packages.  Hechose to share the contents of his package with the children in Iraq.  Thisis an image, of the conflict in Iraq, that we seldom see.
May we never forget the humanitarian efforts that take place behindthe scenes.  Our men and women in uniform who use their head, heart andhands to be of service and provide a healthier way for the citizens ofIraq.
Lt. Powell writes.  “I was excited to receive the package and havealready used the items you sent.  The local populace here is very poor.
There are a lot of farmers here and they raise a lot of sheep and goats. The place where I am is dangerous. I am a platoon leader for 29 men.  Wework 18 hour days on a variety of missions.  One of my favorite is handingout items to the kids.  In the civilian world, I am the only male nurse inthe Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, sokids are my forte.  Thank you for the gift, as it means a great deal notonly to me and my men, but also to the locals here.”
Brian’s response is similar to the many that 4-H members havereceived from 278th soldiers currently deployed.  May we never forget.  Andyes, a picture is worth a thousand words.
