The 2004-05 season came to a screeching halt for the Sevier County Bearettes on Monday as Farragut rallied in the second half to win 46-35 in the quarterfinals of the District 4 AAA Tournament at Heritage High School. Sevier County led the entire first half as they hit timely 3-pointers and played a sticky 2-3 zone, forcing several turnovers and bad shots by the Lady Admirals.
After leading 23-20 at the half, the Bearettes were outscored by 12 points in the final two quarters as Farragut’s man-to-man defense forced numerous bad passes that led to easy scores. Sevier County stayed with the bigger Lady Admirals until about midway through the fourth quarter. Farragut, led by Natalie Munday’s 11 points, hit several foul shots down the stretch, and controlled the backboards as the Bearettes tried to mount a comeback late.
Sevier County hit six 3-pointers in the game and were led in scoring by Jacqueline Kremer with 12. Fox chipped in with eight points, including two 3-pointers. The young Bearettes finished the season with an 11-17 record. They return several players who got valuable experience this year. The Lady Admirals are now 23-9 on the year and play Maryville in the semifinals on Tuesday. The top four teams in the tournament advance to next week’s regional tournament.
