The Seymour Middle School wrestling team won its second straight state dual championship beating the Pilot Middle School wrestling team in the final round by a score of 60-24, at the second annual Tennessee Middle School Dual State Championships at Seymour High School last Saturday.
The Eagle matmen also repeated as county champs and finished the 2005 dual season with a regular season record of 15-0 in the region.
Seymour also scored wins over the Vikings from the Tri- Cities, 78-6, Maryville Middle School, 63-14, and a shutout of Halls Middle School, 86-0, at the championship event. The Pilot team finished in third place for the tournament, with Maryville Middle School placing second, and a second Seymour Middle School team, Seymour Gold, taking fourth place.
In the championship round of the tournament, Seymour jumped out to an early lead over Pilot with 6 pins in 7 matches, putting the Eagles ahead 36-6. The Eagles never relinquished the lead scoring with 4 additional pins in the last 7 matches. Seymour’s grapplers won a total of 33.
