Juan Manuel Alvarez decided that he wanted to die. He and his wife had recently separated and she obtained a court order to keep him away from her and his son.
He was using drugs and becoming more and more violent as the days went on and eventually started to speak of taking his own life. He wasn’t receiving any sympathy from those he knew and things weren’t getting any better. Wednesday morning Alvarez decides that it is time to end his life.
He gets into his Jeep Cherokee and drives to a Glendale railroad crossing. He places the vehicle in park and awaits the inevitable. Already I question what was going on in his mind at this time. Was there sweat pouring down his face as the train approached? Did he buckle his safety belt out of habit, a habit that he would never face again? It seems that something snapped him back to this world and he decided that he was not ready for death. It’s not certain as of yet whether or not Mr. Alvarez attempted to get his vehicle off the tracks but witnesses say that they saw him leave his vehicle and flee from the oncoming train.
He then watched as the train took his car and put it into the undercarriage causing the train to jump the tracks and collide with another train and then crashed into a second train. Alvarez has been reported as watching the whole thing happen. What was the outcome of his selfish act of cowardice? Eleven people were pronounced dead with 120+ injured. Alvarez is facing 11 counts of murder and I feel he should be found guilty for them all. Might as well throw an attempted murder on there as well considering how he failed in killing himself like he originally planed. If you are suicidal that is one thing, but do not take others down with you in your quest to leave this world early.
I’m sure Mr. Alvarez is wishing that he had stayed in his vehicle now instead of facing life in prison or even the death penalty. Although if we kill him wouldn’t we just be finishing the job that he was too chicken to do himself? I say we stick him in a room with each of the 11 families of the individuals that died and let him see what he has done to them. Let each family pour the guilt upon this man until he can no longer stand it and then do it all again. We should make him watch the footage of the wreckage over and over again until it is just too unbearable for him any longer. Maybe someone should have told him that if he wanted to kill himself there are plenty of rivers to jump in.
Thank you so much Mr. Alvarez and your selfish ways for bringing an end to more peoples lives. It’s not like we don’t have enough ways to face death every day, you have to come in and take matters into your own hands. May you never see the light of day again.
