Sentencing has been completed for Former UT Vol and current Baltimore Ravens running back Jamal Lewis who was sentenced in Atlanta’s Federal Court Wednesday to four months in prison for using a cell phone to try to set up a drug deal. The occurrence happened almost five years ago.
The sentence was approved by US District Judge Orinda Evans as part of a plea bargain Lewis reached with prosecutors in October.
Lewis, 25, is a former star at the University of Tennessee. As part of the plea deal he must also will spend two months in a halfway house and must perform 500 hours of community service. Prosecutors agreed to drop more serious drug conspiracy and attempted cocaine possession charges that could have led the former Vol in prison for ten years.
Lewis told the judge he was “truly sorry” for his actions. Lewis was selected fifth overall in the 2000 NFL Draft right after his last season with the Vols.
