Former teacher is not guilty until proven otherwise
In yesterday’s edition of The Herald, it said that former Seymour High School teacher Kristi Dance Oakes was “arrested for having sex with one of her high school aged students.” While that statement is true, Oakes was arrested for that crime, it wasn’t until this week that she was indicted by the Grand Jury on a charge of statutory rape. She should be presumed to be innocent unless she is convicted in a court of law for that crime.
