“This little piggy went to market, this little piggy stayed home.” Well actually they were “big piggies” and they recently traveled to the Regional and State 4-H Market Hog Shows.  Tyler and Jared Bruhin participated in both the regional and state show, with their market hogs.At the Regional Market Hog Show, in Knoxville, Jared was named the Junior Showmanship winner and his hog placed fifth in its class.  Tyler’s hog placed second in its class and he placed sixth in showmanship.At the State Market Hog Show, at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Jared placed fifth in Junior Showmanship and Tyler placed sixth in Junior Showmanship.  Tyler also placed sixth high in the State Market Hog Skillathon Competition.  The skillathon test the 4-H members knowledge of the market hog project as it relates to feed identification, breed identification, meat identification, production practices and health practices.  Over 130 4-H members, from across the state, participated in the state show.  Tyler and Jared are the sons of Mr. & Mrs. Alan Bruhin of Sevierville.Actually Tyler and Jared’s hogs did go to the market after the show. If you are interested in a quality meat product you might consider purchasing a 4-H market hog next year.Opportunities like these are available to 4th – 12th grade 4-H members in Sevier County.
