Columbia— The Lady Senators beat the Lady Chargers, 83-54, and the Senators prevail over the Chargers, 79-64.
The Lady Senators, as a team, turned the ball over only nine times for the game, and they were 19-of-27 from the free-throw line. Individually, four Lady Senators scored in double-figures.
Katy McInnis led the way in scoring with 15 points including three buckets from 3-point range. Vickie Blanchard drilled a pair of 3-pointers on her way to 14 points. Yaneesa Simpson scored in double-figures for the first since returning from a broken nose with 13 points and, Cortney Brown had the double-double scoring 10 points and hauling in 12 boards.
For Columbia State, Natalie Watson had 15 points. Shannon Morton added 12, and Milissa Hodge scored 10.
The No. 10 ranked Lady Senators record goes to 17-2 (6-0) with the win. Columbia State falls to 4-12 (2-4).
The Senators had strong performances from Darryl Sommerset and Ralph Legg to hold off the Chargers. Sommerset poured in 22 points and nabbed 7 boards. Legg sank three buckets from beyond the 3-point arc on his way to 16 points. James Helton added 10 points.
Chris Babbitt led the scoring for Columbia State with 15 points. Kris Lee added 11 with two 3-pointers.
The Senators record goes to 15-4 (5-2) while the Chargers fall to 8-10 (3-4).
Walters State will return home for a pair of games with Cleveland State in the “Z” Buda Assembly Hall and Gymnasium on Wednesday, Jan 26. The Lady Senators will start at 6 p.m. The Senators will follow at 8 p.m.
