The Sevierville Police Department (SPD) has scheduled a ShopliftingPrevention class on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 6 – 7 p.m. at theSevierville Civic Center.
The class, being taught by SPD Sgt. Rebecca Cowan, is designed for businessowners and retail workers. Topics to be covered include shoplifting relatedlaws, owner rights, police officer procedures, and methods and tools used byshoplifters.
According to Sgt. Cowan, there were almost 400 reported cases of shopliftingin Sevierville in 2003. “The actual number of shoplifting cases is likelymuch higher,” said Cowan, “since most shoplifting goes undetected.”
Nationally, Sgt. Cowan says that less than four percent of the billions of dollarslost each year to shoplifters is recovered. In fact, it is estimated that for every one dollar that is recovered, over $27.00 is lost due to retail theft.
Please call Sgt. Cowan at 453-7310, extension 3001 to register for theclass.
