Decking the Halls is a holiday tradition that can be pretty expensive these days. The Herald Newspapers realizes that for many of us, the economy is pretty challenging. We would like to share some fun, inexpensive ways to add holiday cheer to your home’s décor, and encourage you to look around your house for materials that you may not have considered in the past.
· Make a candy cane vase using a coffee can or jar. Glue the candy canes curved side up, and fill it with red flowers.
· Group together some pretty ornaments, teddy bears, and nutcrackers together for an attractive center piece.
· Put some bare twigs in a vase and stick some gumdrops on the end of the branches for a “candy tree”.
· Fill a large bowl with leafy greens and put in some colorful winter fruit.
· Wrap up some small, empty boxes and place in the middle of your table or on a coffee table for a festive look.
· Add green food coloring in the gooey marshmallow stage of rice krispy treats, then form into a wreath or a Christmas tree for easy and sweet gifts or decorations.
· Spray pinecones and walnuts with gold spray and place in various places throughout your home.
· Bread dough makes a lovely wreath. Braid and form into a circle, top with a bright bow.
· Place whole cloves in an orange at regular intervals and top with a ribbon. It will make closets, or living areas smell spicy and encourage your holiday mood.
It is good to make much of the positive holiday season. Our lives are enriched when we stop and enjoy the goodness we all so richly experience.
