Congressman John J. Duncan, Jr., will host a press conference with representatives from National Transportation Research Center, Inc. (NTRCI), the University of Tennessee, and Volvo this Wednesday to demonstrate a new breakthrough in heavy vehicle technology that will greatly improve highway safety.  
Using a combination of federal funding obtained by Congressman Duncan and private investment, NTRCI, the University, and Volvo have developed in East Tennessee new technology capable of monitoring a tractor trailer’s breaking system and reporting degradation and other possible safety hazards. This advancement represents the tremendous possibilities created by teaming federal tax dollars with public research ventures and private sector expertise. 
Those attending will witness a real time exhibition of this new technology. A tractor trailer equipped with the monitoring device will approach the weigh station and relay data regarding the vehicle’s brakes those gathered. The vehicle will then proceed into the weigh station for a question and answer period.
