The holiday season is a very busy time for most people, including blood donors. MEDIC Regional Blood Center must continue to collect 350 units each and every day to fulfill hospital orders. MEDIC officials ask that you please make arrangements to donate this holiday season since usage usually increases due to traffic accidents, elective surgeries, and other medical emergencies that can take place during this time of year.
Donors can come to our Ailor Avenue Center which is open seven days a week or visit one of our mobile sites located throughout the 21 counties we serve. Please log onto our website at www.medicblood.com or call our donor center at 865-524-3074. During the week of December 6 our mobile locations are as followed:
December 8, Sevier Farmer’s Co-Op, 321 W. Main Street, 2:30pm – 5:30pm, Medic Mobile.
Besides a T-shirt, donors also receive a free cholesterol level evaluation (no fasting required) and MEDIC’S Family Blood Coverage. Family coverage means that a pint of blood donated to the MEDIC Regional Blood Center will ensure your family (IRS Dependents)does not have to pay blood supply processing fees at any hospital in the U.S.
Donors must have positive identification, must be at least 17 years old and with at least 110 pounds. There is no upper age limit for donating.
Donors of all types are needed during the winter months and each donation can save up to three lives. Donated blood can be stored for only 42 days; so, the supply must be replenished constantly.
