Accreditation team comes to Pigeon Forge Police
A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), will arrive December 11 to examine all aspects of the Pigeon Forge Police Department’s policy and procedure, management, and support services, Chief Jack Baldwin announced.
According to Baldwin, verification by the team that Pigeon Forge Police Department meets the Commission’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to maintain accreditation-a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence.
As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session December 13 at 7 p.m. The session will be conducted in the Pigeon Forge City Commission room, located at the Pigeon Forge City Hall.
If for some reason an individual can’t speak at the public information session but would still like to provide comments to the assessment team, he/she may do so by telephone. The public may call 865-429-7438 on Tuesday, December 14 between the hours of 1 and 5 p.m.
Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to ten minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. A copy of the standards is available at the Pigeon Forge Police Department.

“The Pigeon Forge Police Department has to comply with 368 standards in order to maintain accredited status,” said Chief Baldwin. “By meeting, and sometimes exceeding, these standards, we are making a statement to the public that we have a strong desire to present them with a high level of service fro law enforcement in Pigeon Forge.”
The Accreditation Program Manager for Pigeon Forge Police Department is Officer Chris A. Smith. He said the assessment team is composed of law enforcement practitioners from similar but out of state agencies. The assessors will review written materials, interview individuals, and visit offices and other places where compliance can be witnessed.
