This fall, 4-H members have had a multitude of opportunities in which to participate. Over 50 4-H members recently constructed gingerbread houses with the assistance of the culinary arts staff at Walters State Community College, under the direction of Chef Hallman. Another 30 4-H members constructed wooden cedar trinket boxes at the 4-H Woodworking Workshop. Special thanks goes to John Ward for providing thisopportunity.
Another 40 4-H members will be making Christmas Crafts at workshops scheduled for early December.While these young people have been busy with their hands other 4-H members have been using their cooking and livestock showing skills.
Amanda Hansen, Tara Cannon and Samantha Cole represented Sevier County in thestate 4-H Outdoor Meat Cookery Contest. They placed 7th in the state with their grilling entries of beef, lamb and pork. Amanda is a student at Gatlinburg Pittman High School, while Samantha and Tara both attend Pigeon Forge High School.
Tyler and Jared Bruhin recently participated in the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Kentucky. The North American EXPO is the largest all-breed, pure breed livestock show in the world. The event runs fourteen days and draws nearly 22,000 entries and 200,000 visitors each year.
Tyler and Jared participated in the National Junior Shropshire Sheep Show. Tyler placed tenth in a class of 26 with his Early Junior Ewe Lamb and Jared exhibited a Later Junior Ewe Lamb. The showmanship classes highlighted the event, where Tyler was named the National Junior Shropshire Showmanship Champion. Tyler and Jared are the sons of Mr. & Mrs. Alan Bruhin of Sevierville.
