I was not one of those who rushed out to see Michael Moore’s “Fahrenheit 9-11.” I wanted to see what kind of reactions people had before viewing the movie myself. Predictably, many Republicans simply wrote it off, saying it was a pack of lies. Some of them actually saw the movie. Several people told me it was a “must see” film. Waiting until recently to finally see it, I was able to make my own determination. “Fahrenheit 9-11” really was a pack of lies, by the Bush administration, that is. The connections the Bush family has with the Saudis are not imagined. Cheney’s relationships with Halliburton and other companies with government contracts are very real. The fact that indicted ex-Enron CEO Ken Lay donated thousands to Bush’s campaign and is a good friend of his is not a fable. And it is true that Osama bin Laden, the mastermind behind the September 11 disaster, is still a fugitive along with members of his terror group.
One of the most amazing lies was the one the American people were told on 9-12-01, that the only planes flying over the U.S. were military planes. As we were being informed of this, members of the bin Laden family and other Saudis were allowed to fly out of our country. Why has the Bush administration not ever explained this? They certainly never denied it. Maybe they were hoping no one would find out.
I find it laughable that the administration, from Bush on down, has continued to try to convince citizens that Iraq had WMDs, and that there was a Saddam-al Queda connection. Do they think we are complete idiots? As the documentary related to viewers, there are a lot of disillusioned U.S. troops in the war zones. They see this senseless killing and maiming every day. They have seen their fellow soldiers go down, and Iraqi civilians being slaughtered by the hundreds, and for what?
I sincerely hope in the few remaining days before the election voters will choose to vote their conscience, and not strictly for a particular party. As for myself, I feel John Kerry has made his case and will better serve our country as president. I literally have no faith or trust in George Bush as a leader. He had his 4 years, it’s time he vacate the premises.
