Boys Scout Troop 585 got together October 15th through 17th on about 19 acres, owned by Callie Temple, just off Boyd’s Creek Road to celebrate the Sequoia District Fall Camparee or passionately referred to as Spookaree.
Murphy Monceaux, the scoutmaster of Troop 585, said the kids really had a good time with it compared with other events where there are more scouting activities. “This time they just had fun and enjoyed themselves horsing around,” Monceaux told The Herald.
Eight troops, which consisted of 106 boys and 43 adults, started with eight events ranging from the Vampire Attack to the Wicked Witch. It all involved fun and scouting skills – haunted fellowships.
“Saturday night there was a big campfire where awards were presented to the top three patrols and for pumpkin carving contest and the winner of the costume contest,” said Monceaux.
The ages of the boy scouts ranged from 11 – 18. The ages of the adults were not readily available. All the troops had camps and campfires.
Each troop had a unique function. One troop took a big plastic tarp and made a 30-foot flagpole.
The scouts enjoyed excellent weather with the exception of the wind on Saturday. The next event in the district is The Klondike in January at the FOB lodge off off Tipton Station Road in South Knoxville. For those interested in joining in the Seymour area, the scouts meet every Monday evenings at the Seymour United Methodist Church.
