“I am extremely impressed with depth of the community and the outpouring of concern over this tragedy,” commented Rae Mullins, Pastor at Seymour United Methodist Church. Mullins was referring to the car accident that sent Josh Reed to the University of Tennessee neuro-intensive care ward and the commitment and dedication of the public to assist the family wherever they can.
Josh is a 16-year-old sophomore who attends Seymour High School. He is very active in the Navy ROTC and quite popular in school as well as his church. Due to his injuries, he was required to receive numerous units of blood from the blood bank. Seymour United Methodist Church hosted a replacement blood drive for Josh Reed in an effort to defray the costs incurred. People from the church, neighbors, friends, even citizens who did not know the adolescent were in line to donate blood for the cause. “I don’t know the boy. I am a member of the church and drove from Knoxville to donate for this good cause,” replied Dana Taylor.
Numerous churches in the community as well as Seymour High School, friends as well as strangers joined together to assist the family in many different ways. Food, transportation, cards, support and well wishes are just a few. “It is a true youth oriented community,” stated Mullins, “I am proud to be a part of it.”
