Great Tuna Weigh In will be Thursday

The 4-H, “Great Tuna Weigh In”, is set for Tuesday, October 26, 6:30p.m., at Sevierville Intermediate School. The “Weigh In”, is held in conjunction with theCountywide 4-H Officers Workshop, which begins at 6:45 p.m.This event culminates the 3rd annual “4-H Hooked on Helping Hunger” campaign where 4-H members make donations of tuna to the Sevier County Food Ministry, last year 4-H members donated over 7000 cans of tuna to the food ministry.The theme for the project is, “One Can, Can Make A Difference”. According to the staff at the Food Ministry, one can of tuna combined with other items distributed, will feed a family of four a meal.  The goal for the project is one can donated for every 4-H member.  With over 4000 4-H members, one can, really can make a difference.Over 800 families each week receive assistance with food at the food ministry.  Steve Streibig, Director, Sevier County Food Ministry said, “This type of donation will supply our needs for tuna for several months. We greatly appreciate all those whoparticipate in the 4-H tuna drive.”  Mr. Streibig will be on hand to accept the tuna donation and make comments to the 4-H officers about the food ministry at 7:35 p.m.4-H officers attending the workshop will receive training for theupcoming year.  Breakout sessions will be held for 4-H presidents, vice presidents, secretaries, service learning chairman and song leaders.  All 4-H officers are encouraged to attend.  Last year over 200 participated.The “Great Tuna Weigh In” and the officer’s workshop are educational efforts of the 4-H citizenship and leadership projects.  These experiences help young people develop important life skills.  If you need more information about 4-H opportunities in Sevier County contact Glenn K.
