A week and two days before Halloween and yes it’s time to start thinking about those Halloween costumes again. My daughter Angela came into the kitchen and said, “Mom I need a Halloween costume by Wednesday so I can wear it to Awana’s (A church youth group.) Angela continued, “My friend Ashley and I want to be twins – Maybe we can be Mary Kate and Ashley – I’ll need a long blonde wig you know.”
Why is it that every year I know Halloween is coming and still every year we wait until the last minute to put together some type of Halloween costume? It’s a little like waiting until the week before Christmas to take the family Christmas picture even though you know you need to mail them to relatives clear across the country before the holidays.
I think the word is PROCRASTINATION. It’s a word I’m good with. Each year I say I’m going to get things done in advance and be “Ready” for the upcoming holiday and still every year I tend to wait until the last minute to do it.
Maybe we should mark things on the calendar way in advance? Ok, it’s October 20th, time to get those Christmas pictures taken.
But honestly, I think it really just comes down to time. Time and time management, how hard can it to be find a blonde wig by Wednesday? After all, it’s only Thursday night as I’m sitting down writing this editorial. Maybe between the dog training class on Monday evening, the grocery shopping, school, work and basketball try-outs we can go wig shopping?
Buck just told me that have a procrastination club. But then he told me every time they plan a meeting they end up canceling it. Oh well, maybe there is still hope, next year.
