Most people have heard of the famous siege at the Alamo, and have heard stories of the lives lost there. This informative historical novel for middle readers puts a human face on this battle.
Victor, a Mexican boy of fourteen, is forced to join the dusty, tired and hungry Mexican soldiers marching to Texas to put down the uprising there. He has to leave behind all he has known and loved, including his dear mother, who is left alone with nobody to help her.
Thus begins Victor’s harrowing experience with war. His only possession from home is stolen from him, his feet become blistered and sore from the long walk, he misses his home and his mother and he has to learn how to get along with the other young men in his regiment. Though he endures many hardships along the way, the real test lies ahead for Victor and his friends–the Alamo.
