FilmMates Corp. of Los Angeles, California is the new distributor of the ‘BELL WITCH – The Movie’ that was filmed in Sevier County and produced by Big River Pictures/ Cinemarr Entertainment.
The film is based on the legend of the Bell Witch. According to legend, in 1820, a spirit named Kate, killed John Bell. Her motives were never revealed and she promised to return in 107 years. The films’ story begins in the 1930’s, 107 years later when two young men return to John Bell’s house to see if the spirit’s prophecy had come true.
“Making the movie was the easy part, finding the right distributor for our project took us longer and was harder. We had many distribution offers and many distributors wanted our movie. But we were looking for a distributor who was aggressive and saw the total package. This movie is based on a true legend, with a worldwide fan base of millions of devotees. We also have an 18 CD soundtrack of original and traditional music that is already generating incredible excitement and being talked about as being even better than the ‘Oh, Brother Where Art Thou” soundtrack,” stated Doris Ogle Marr with Cinemarr Entertainment/Big River Pictures
According to Marr, “FilmMates Corp. saw our vision. They are a new aggressive company with a strong film background, and a huge background in the music world. When they called, they said, “We want the whole package, movie, worldwide music products, everything.” This is what we had been waiting to hear. After six weeks of intense negotiations everything is on go. Plans are for a theatrical red carpet release in early fall.”
Currently, six bands are traveling the US, Canada, England and Ireland singing music from the movie “The BELL WITCH Love Song, The Dreams We Dream” which was written for the movie and song by Jimbo Whaley. According to Marr the song has the potential of becoming a single platinum. “This is a song for every couple desperately in love, it touches your heart, it will be the wedding song of 2005,” stated Marr.
For more information on the movie you can go to www.bellwitchthemovie.com. The website has already received over 5 million hits and the numbers are growing daily.
According to Marr, “We made a movie that you can take the family to see. It’s a true story, with a huge fan base, a period piece, what some may call ‘folk lore’. It’s set in the beautiful mountain of our home, The Great Smoky Mountains.”
The film was directed, produced and co-written by Doris’s son Shane, an eighth-generation native of the Smoky Mountains.
Shane has an extensive background in working in the movie business. While other boys were throwing baseballs he was busy making his first film, a clay animation feature, at age eight. By age 14 he had his own television show, “The Sun Shine Show,” on Channel 8. At 17, he shot camera for the Heartland Series. When he heard that Steven Spielberg was heading up a film school at Universal in Florida he jumped at the chance to attend. “Spielberg brought the best people to run it. Everyone from lighting to sounds and everything in between. Out of the thousands of people who applied to the school only 70 were chosen nation wide to attend and four were invited. One of the four was Marr,” stated Steve Marr, Shane’s dad. After his schooling Marr continued to work at Universal working on various projects and then taught part-time for four to five years at Full Sail, the largest film and video making school in the world, while working on different projects in Florida. Shane then embarked on his first feature film.
“I decided to do the film on the Bell Witch story partly because of the following the story has,” said Shane. “There are over 160 websites related to the Bell Witch story and there have been countless books written on the story. The film will have a built in audience.”
He is currently in LA tweaking the movie with special effects and surround sound. Plans are for a red carpet theatrical premier, complete with antique cars and a special premier party with the bands performing the music from the movie.
“We will be displaying the beauty of our Smoky Mountain in the movie, which is exciting!” stated Doris Marr.
