A little more than three months ago on April 19, the Seymour Branch of the Sevier County Library moved to their new location at 137 West Macon Lane. After unpacking books, setting up displays and getting organized the new library now has that lived in feeling.
“This is a much nicer facility and it has great atmosphere,” stated Kristina Blumeyer who along with her son Tyler are regular visitors. “They did a good job putting it together.”
Blumeyer visits the library from Knoxville after her regular visits to her chiropractor in Seymour. “Tyler loves to read the books. If it has animals in it then it will be a book that he likes.”
Hard and soft back books aren’t the only things that bring people to the new library. Jay Collier of Seymour stops in about once a week to see what new books have arrived on tape. “I wear them out,” referring to the tapes he checks out. “I drive a semi truck for UPS and when I’m going down the road I listen to books on tape. I donate the ones I buy to the library and I always stop in to see what they have that I can check out.”
Branch Manager Virginia Borrelli is more than pleased with the new building and the response from the community. “It’s great. One week we had 141 people sign up. We used to get about 40 a month at our old location,” stated Borrelli.
Besides the new members signing up the library has frequent visitors who use the facility for a variety of reasons. “We just had a home school session here. A local family came in and talked about home schooling their children through high school,” stated Borrelli. Other groups come in and meet on various days and story time held weekly is always a favorite with the kids.
The new library is much more roomy with a fireplace in the main room. “I keep saying we have to have fire side talks,” said Borrelli.
Everyone is invited to come by and check out a good book. Library hours are Monday and Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed Sunday.
