A band that has put in their time for almost a decade has shown their face in Knoxville. K-town will never be the same.
The fervent recording artists that appeared Wednesday night July 16 at Blue Cats in the Old City set the stage for an eventful evening.
Starting with a band called FiveEight, the crowd fired up electric, with good vibes from the upbeat rhythms of a band that hasn’t seen any play in this area. Then the headliner hit the stage.
Seven Mary Three (7M3) has flourished on deep lyrics and straight guitar riffs for a generation of jammin’ bars and keeping the air waves steady with their songs.
Playing songs from the top 20 charts such as “My, My,” “Water’s Edge,” and the always noteworthy “Cumbersome,” the show brought the crowd to life throughout the sets.
Speaking with Jason Ross, the lead singer of Seven Mary Three, immediately you sense his laid-back mindset..
“Living in Chapel Hill, NC, is like the halfway point for the band since it stretches from Boston to Orlando, Florida,” he recently told The Herald in an exclusive interview. “We meet in different points, and sometimes get a chance to hang out camping, or seeing a NASCAR Race would never be out of the question.”
Taking the band’s name verbatim leads you to think it might have something to do with their startup at Williams and Mary College in Williamsburg, VA.
Instead, the band’s name came from the CBS show “CHIPS,” in which Jon’s (Poncho’s partner) used “SevenMaryThree” as his breaker handle.
Ross adds, “Our bus driver is from Knoxville, so it’s always a good time to come down and enjoy good people and a great town.” Without hesitation, he added “Every time we come to Knoxville, we have a time to kick back and enjoy.”
Speaking of kicking back, Ross thinks of 7M3 as a “1965 Lincoln Continental with suicide doors on laid back days, but a ‘69 all original GTO on the revvin’ to go days.”
With those choices in vehicles, one can’t go wrong in attending a show.
After the show, hot and sweaty attendees made it back to the rear of Blue Cats for an autograph signing and an up close and personal time with 7M3 and FiveEight.
“Long distance relationships are tough sometimes, but real friends can make the best of time and produce good things and good feelings,” mentioned Ross. “We can pick up after time away and start playing like we haven’t been apart for any length of time.”
