The Challenger British Soccer Camp ran the week of June 14th through the 18th at Patriot Park in Pigeon Forge. Coaches from Great Britain and Scotland brought their expertise to Sevier County to instruct players from ages four to 19 how to be a better players and learn more techniques.
It is called Challenger because it focuses on challenging the players to improve with maximum participation and maximum touches on the ball. It’s not filled with long speeches and boring line drills. Just lots of fun.
“My daughter 12-year-old girl Olivia participated this year and she loves it,” stated mom Sherry King. “She is learning a lot that she can practice on and learning from the season.” The two coaches are from out of the area, Matthew Turner from England and Greeme Jaap from Scotland worked with the students to enhanced their skills.
“I’ve been playing soccer since I was six and just love the game,” stated Turner. “This program allows us to travel around the country for two to three months in the summer and work with kids. I’m not sure where we are going when we leave here.” Both Turner and Jaap are college students. “I’m working toward my degree in Sports Science,” stated Turner.
