The FBI has announced the arrest Thursday, June 17, of Roy Lee Hill, II, and Georgianna Troupe for the robbery Thursday morning of the Amsouth Bank at 4422 Western Avenue.
Hill, age 35, and Troupe, age 26, were arrested following a car chase by Knoxville Police Department units. The arrests were effected near the 7200 block of Oak Ridge Highway. Troupe was injured when the car they were in crashed. Hill was wounded by at least one shot from an officer. Both were transported for medical care.
At approximately 9:15 Thursday morning, a lone robber entered the bank brandishing a handgun, orally announced the robbery. The robber directly threatened bank employees with the handgun, and with verbal threats. He directed that a bag be filled with money. Customers in the bank were also robbed. The robber was described by witnesses as a black male with a slim build, medium height, wearing black baggy clothes, a wig, and a surgical mask. He was seen leaving in a red compact car with a spoiler and another person in the car. No injury was reported at the bank.
Federal bank robbery charges have been authorized by the United States Attorney’s Office against Hill. Federal charges against Troupe are being considered. The federal bank robbery statute carries a maximum sentence of twenty years.
