The investigation into the early morning shooting death of a Sevierville woman last Friday is still ongoing, according to the Sevier County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies were called to 722 Crawfish Way in Sevierville and found Mary Ann Rayfield, 42, lying face down in the driveway with a gunshot wound to her upper right chest. According to the SCSD, Rayfield, of 2220 Big River Overlook Drive in Sevierville, was dead when deputies arrived at the scene.
Arrested in connection with the incident and charged with second-degree murder was Curtis Ownby, 45, who resides at the address where the alleged murder took place.
Ownby was taken into custody shortly after deputies arrived, and was arraigned at the Sevier County Jail with bond set at $500,000.
According to authorities, Ownby’s neighbor at 720 Crawfish Way made a 911 call at approximately 1:20 a.m. to report the alleged shooting.
Sheriff Bruce Montgomery confirmed “alcohol was involved” in the case. “It was an unfortunate incident,” Montgomery said.
SCSD Detective Mark Turner is investigating the case.
