Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center has announced that renovations to its emergency department are complete. Construction began in mid-February and was completed on schedule in three phases.
Phase I renovations included work in the Fast Track lobby, while Phase II of the project focused on the triage room and nurses’ break area. Phase III involved the emergency room lobby, nurses’ station, and registration area, resulting in the temporary relocation of the emergency waiting and triage areas to the main lobby of the hospital.
The 3,000 square-foot project merged two waiting rooms for the emergency department and Fast Track into one large waiting area. Newly renovated registration bays and triage room are expected to decrease patient wait time as well as assist in determining the acuity level of their illness or injury.
“We would like to thank everyone for their patience during the past three months,” said Lisa Young, RN, emergency department leader. “The areas involved in this project have truly been transformed and were certainly worth the wait. We are very pleased to offer a more comfortable and spacious waiting area for our patients, as well as a more efficient work environment for our staff.”
