Figures released from the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD) that break down the call types they have answered seem to show a normal trend for this time of year.
For numbers that include incident responses through the end of March 2004, the department, which consists of unpaid volunteers, has scrambled on 186 rescue and EMS calls, more than 69% of the total responses for the department, which totaled 269.
Fires accounted for 50 of the responses, or about 18.5%.
Fourteen of the calls were for false alarms, and six others were for hazardous conditions with no fire.
It is typical for the SVFD to have the majority of their calls for medical emergencies. The Department is staffed and equipped to be a “first responder” to medical emergencies, and often arrives before an ambulance is able to respond.
