Caton’s Chapel and Sevierville are sending their middle school boys and girls team to the region tournament at Laurel Valle,y while Seymour is sending a boys team and Pigeon Forge their girls’ squad after Tuesday’s district tournament at Bent Creek. The district is composed of Sevier County schools. The top three teams from Tuesday advance to the regional.
In the boys play the teams took the four low scores from each team after eighteen holes on a chilly, windy day at the golf course resort off of 321. Catons Chapel took the district crown with a 381 team score led by Bo Owens low score for the tourney at 79. Seymour Middle was a close second finishing the day at 385, led by Andrew Ramsey’s 88 and Spencer Rudder’s 91. Sevierville took the final region berth with a 391. Thomas Laughlin turned in a 85, good for second place overall to pace the Cubs.
Willie Sexton made the third medallist slot with an 86. King’s Academy had only three players competing so couldn’t field the needed four to go for a team shot at region. Pigeon Forge Middle came in at a 414, Pi Beta Phi at 422 and Jones Cove at 461.
The Boys All-District Team was made up of Owens, Laughlin, Ramsey, Rudder and Jeffrey Giles from Seymour. Second team was Taylor Ogle from Pi Beta Phi, Chad Pickens from Sevierville, Cody Allen from Pigeon Forge, Matthew Galyon from Sevierville and Derrick Rickels from Seymour. Owens was also named the District Player of the Year after his first place round.
The girls played nine holes and the top three scores were counted for team play. Sevierville’s Cubettes took first with a 125 team score led by Chelsea Davis. Davis had the tournament low of 60 to claim the first place medallion and Nicole Suiter took third overall with a 65 in a tie breaker over teammate Barbara Ogle who also finished the day with a 65. The Lady Tigers from Pigeon Forge claimed second place with a 128 as Katie Doane fired a 63 for the second place individual score. Catons Chapel came in at 131 to give the school two teams headed to the regional.
