Seymour middle takes region baseball crown

Seymour Middle School stayed perfect for a 17-0 record that included a perfect thirteen game regular season, three straight wins for a district championship and a region win to cap the season. The team played an exhibition game against Pigeon Forge Middle after the school’s high school varsity game Wednesday night. The Tigers had a 1-0 win against the blue and gold with the teams playing for fun and switching around their line-ups. Seymour had shut out wins over Pigeon Forge during the regular season.
During the season, the Eagles averaged an unheard of 16 runs per game while outscoring their opponents 175-54. “We have had a great season. Bill Fox and I have been blessed to have a great bunch of boys to coach. This was my first season to coach any sports team and I had a blast,” said assistant coach Jack Fullerton.
Seventh grader Cody Allen took team highs this season, playing in all 17 games to total 55 at-bats and 27 hits to get a team high batting average of .491. There were plenty of big sticks in the Seymour line up. Todd Ogle (.426), Drew Fox (.417), Zach Pace (.386) and Wes Walker (.385) all had big numbers for the blue and gold. Seymour had seven hitters stroking above the .350 mark at the plate and nine that had a better than .350 on-base percentage.As a team the Eagles hit a collective .334 during the season and reached base better than four out of every ten at-bats.
Todd Ogle was the main force on the mound going 31 innings but the stable was also full of arms. In seven starts, Ogle came up with seven wins and tallied 36 K’s on his belt while holding a 1.24 ERA. Wes Walker had a 1.59 ERA while accounting for 18 strike outs and Cody Allen sat 29 batters down through strikes. Seth Stoffle came away with four wins and a save in making an impressive 20 to 10 strike outs to walks ratio. Chase Marshall got work in four games to get credited with one win and ten strike outs for Seymour. The staff kept the ERA down to 2.67, giving up just 30 runs over the season while totaling 113 strike-outs.
