The Nonprofit Management Center of East Tennessee (NMC) will host its May course on Board Development on Tuesday, May 11, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at United Way of Greater Knoxville, 1301 Hannah Avenue.
The course will examine the evolving nature of nonprofit boards and the care and nurture required to keep them moving forward to meet the challenges of the future. Board members as well as chief professional officers will benefit from this session. Participants will learn to appreciate volunteerism especially as it relates to boards and committees; learn to better understand the board development concepts of assessment, nomination and recruitment; acknowledge the responsibility of training volunteers to achieve the organization’s mission; and become familiar with tools and resources available to develop their volunteers and boards.
Jack Bender, National YMCA Regional Consultant, will present the course. Bender is well-known for his entertaining and fast-paced approach to teaching board development garnered from over 28 years of experience with nonprofit organizations.
Cost for the course is $30 for each individual and $20 for each attendee from the same organization. Interested parties can pre-register by calling Sarah Mezga at United Way at
