The boys tennis team at Pigeon Forge pulled off back-to-back county wins last week. The Tigers opened the week by creaming the TKA Lions in a one sided 9-0 cat fight, then moved on get a closer 6-3 victory over Seymour Thursday.
In the Monday meeting with the King’s Academy, PFHS swept all six singles matches and the three doubles points as well. Rory Bristol defeated Jordan Vest (6-4) in the top slot while John Cave bested Sean Miller 6-0. The two the teamed up to win top singles 7-5 over the combo of Michael Grubb and Vest.
Dustin Melbardis won the three spot over Brett Weaver (6-4) and Jacob Cave took a 6-1 win over Grubb. The duo won the two doubles slot for the Tigers 6-1 over Weaver and Miller.
Wesley Trentham downed James McGwire (6-4) before Paul Harper took the six seed over Clay Hammond 6-2. Charles Brackins teamed up with Harper to win the last doubles point 6-4 over Hammond and McGwire.
In Thursday’s match things were a little closer for Pigeon Forge. Bristol went down to Drew Stokes 8-0 and John Cave lost to Joseph Laurent 8-3 as Seymour took the first two points. The Tigers swept the last four singles spots with Jacob Cave downing Daniel Cook (8-2), Melbardis banged an 8-1 win over Paul Dehlson, Brackins won over Sheldon Reynolds (8-4) in the five match and Harper got by Jim Moak 8-3.
Seymour’s Stokes and Laurent won the top doubles point as well, 8-4 over Bristol and John Cave. Again Pigeon Forge got the best of the rest, with Jacob Cave and Melbardis claiming an 8-3 doubles win over Cook and Dehlson. Trentham came in and played the three seed with Brackins for an 8-1 besting of Jorden Lawson and Robert Herrick.
The Lady Tigers were off to a slower week, winning by a game, 5-4, over King’s while Seymour chalked up a 7-2 court win over PF. Linda Villarreal took a 6-1 win over Katie King at the number one meeting to get Pigeon Forge started, but the Forge netters split evenly on the singles 3-3 with the Lady Lions.
Kristen Turner defeated Lauren Kim at the five slot (6-3) and Sweth Patel came away with a 6-4 triumph over Rina Shin. TKA took the middle slots with Breann Weaver (6-3) over Bethany Boyenton, Innhye Kim (6-2) over Brittany Williams and Min Jung Kim (6-3) over Kristin Senatore.
Villareal and Williams won the top double’s point for the Lady Tigers 6-3 over King and Weaver. The Lady Lions took the second seed doubles with a Kim squared pair. M. Kim and I. Kim took a 6-1 match over Turner and Boyenton that tied the points at four each. The Lady Tigers took a close battle in the three seed doubles for the win with Senatore and Amy Feltes scrapping by L. Kim and Shin 6-4.
Seymour went to Pigeon Forge for their 7-2 win. Sarah Hively got an 8-2 match over Boyenton. Jessie Boaz blanked Williams 8-0 and Srah Finchum netted an 8-5 win over Senatore. Mandy England defeated Turner (7-2) and Chelsea Luttrell got by Breanna Trombley 8-6. The Lady Tigers point off singles was at the first seed where Villareal had an 8-1 win over Kristin Vandergriff.
Villareal and Williams matched up to get the first doubles point 8-3 over Vandergriff and Finchum but the Lady eagles took the other two double’s points. Boaz and Finchum were 8-3 winners over Boyenton and Turner while England and Luttrell got a 6-4 match by Sweta Patel and Amy Feltes.
Pigeon Forge spends next week on the road traveling to Claiborne, Union Co. and West Greene for three district court clashes. Seymour also stays away from their nest to face Gibbs and Heritage.
