Seymour alumnus Brandon Ketron was named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday, marking the second week in a row that a Union College player has garnered the award.
The junior catcher played in three of Union’s four games last week, going 6-of-10 from the plate with 10 RBIs, three runs scored, a double, a triple, a home run and a stole base as the Bulldogs went 4-0 during the week to stretch their win streak to 10 games. The Seymour, Tenn. native’s best game came in Friday’s 15-13 win over league rival Bluefield (Va.) College. At the plate, Ketron went 4-for-5 with a double, a home run and four RBIs, while defensively, he made nine putouts, picked off two runners and threw out another would-be base stealer.
On the season, Ketron is batting .448 with three home runs, eight doubles and 26 RBIs. In addition, he has thrown out eight out of 15 base stealers. Union College is 15-12 this season.
