The Seymour community’s importance in the politics of Sevier County took another leap last week when three of the five commissioners appointed to the new Beer Board came from Seymour districts. Seymour Commissioners Bill Oakes, James Dykes and Buster Norton all took seats on the new board along with Garold Rhea from Catons Chapel and Ben Clabo from the Wears Vally/Pigeon Forge area. The new chairman is Commissioner Oakes.
The rapid increase in Seymour’s population has brought adjustment to the districts and more representatives are coming from the Seymour area. The 6th, 9th and 10th districts all run through Seymour, giving the community control over six of the twenty-five seats on the county commission. Part of the eighth also runs into the edges of Seymour along Boyd’s Creek Highway, giving residents in that rapidly expanding area at least some voice in two more commissioner’s decisions.
