Cynthia J. Long, who pled guilty to embezzlement of funds from Citizens National Bank, and falsification of bank records, was sentenced Wednesday, February 18 to a term of five months imprisonment.
The Honorable Leon Jordan, United States District Court Judge, handed down the sentence to the 33-year-old Sevierville resident. He also imposed an additional five-month home detention following the first sentence, and a three-year term of supervised release, as well as 150 hours of community service.
According to bank officials, the loss to the institution was in excess of eighty thousand dollars. Long has already paid restitution to the bank.
US District Court records indicate that Long siphoned off customer funds by falsifying bank records, and cashing Certificates of Deposit without the customer’s permission. The plea agreement filed by the court stipulated that the falsification of records and misappropriation of funds could have begun as early as May of 1999, and lasted through January of 2002.
