Sept. 3 – Parents, it’s time to grab the kids and head off to the Sevier County Fair running now until September 6. There is a lot to do, including carnival rides and exhibits to keep you busy.
The opening of the carnival was held on Monday ,and it didn’t take long for kids to hit the rides and try their hands at making the basket in the hoop for a stuffed animal. Monday evening two Sevier County Queens were crowned. Little Miss (ages 7-9) went to Ms. Peyton Proffitt of Sevierville. The winner and Queen of the Fairest of the Fair (ages 16-21) went to Ms. Erin Bennett of Sevierville. Bennett attends Sevier County High School and is involved in cheerleading, F.A.I.T.H., Teen Board, Choir and enjoys horseback riding.
Tuesday the cattle show was held and the contest for Miss Pre-Tenn (age 10-12) and Teen (age 13-15) Fairest of the Fair took place.
There is still plenty to do at the fair. Wednesday is the sheep judging at 6 p.m, Terrapin race at 7 p.m. and live entertainment in The Barn each night at 8 p.m. with a variety of groups to keep your toes tapping. Thursday the gates open at 12:30 p.m. (no rides) and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. it’s Senior Citizen Day where all seniors are admitted for free. Thursday night is a favorite night for many because of the annual dog show. Your dogs don’t have to be a thoroughbred to enter. That starts at 6 p.m. Friday the fair starts to wind down but is still going strong with a watermelon seed spitting contest at 7 p.m.
Every night there is a money pole at 6:30 p.m. and the kids can enjoy the petting zoo.
Jack Thurman with the Sevier County Fair stated, “We expect a good turnout. It’s always a lot of fun.”
