A Christmas Day fire left a Sevier County Family homeless with only the clothes they were wearing. “They lost everything,” a family member said. The mobile home belonged to Willard and Judy Presnell, who had two sons, Brandon, 20, Grayson, 23, and Haley, a 2-year-old granddaughter, living with them.
The Sevier County Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the home at 324 Ingle Hollow Road just after 2 pm. The home was fully involved upon their arrival. It took two and a half hours to get the fire extinguished.
Walden Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Sevier County Ambulance Service, Sevier County Sheriff’s Department and MSgt. James Gambrell with the Sevier County Rescue Squad also responded. The Fire Department used approximately 10,000 gallons of water, Chief Ottinger said.
“You could see smoke from Newport Highway,” one of the firefighters told The Herald reporter on the scene.
The Presnell’s were celebrating Christmas with Family at another residence so the home was vacant and no injuries occurred.
“The cause of the fire is unknown at this time,” said Chief Ottinger. The Red Cross was called to assist immediately with shelter and clothing.
Monetary donations may be made at any Mountain National Bank location to the Presnell Family Fund, or call Sarah Helton at 908-1913 with clothing and personal needs.
