Walters State Community College has announced the addition of four new faculty members to the staff at the school.
Birgit Austin is assistant professor of Spanish at the college’s Sevier County Campus. She holds a master’s degree in Spanish and German from East Tennessee State University and a bachelor’s degree in foreign languages from Mississippi State College for Women. She was previously an instructor at Chattanooga State Technical Community College and has taught at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga.
Becky Brown of Morristown joins the college as assistant professor in the physical therapist assistant program. Brown holds a master’s degree in kinesiology from Indiana University and a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Tennessee, Memphis. She previously served as senior physical therapist at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston.
Dan Jones is associate professor of English at the college’s Sevier County Campus. Jones previously was a professor of English at Wytheville Community College in Wytheville, Virginia. He holds a doctorate from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a master’s degree from Vanderbilt University and a bachelor’s degree from Carson Newman College.
John Rose of Bristol is a new assistant professor in the criminal justice program. He earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice at East Tennessee State University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He has served as an adjunct faculty member at Walters State and was a major with the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office.
