Sevierville Police Officer Steve Ford responded to a single vehicle accident on Winfield Dunn Pkwy. (Hwy. 66) near East Dumplin Valley Road, at about 8:02 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2003.
Officer Ford reported that a 1999 Toyota RAV4 had allegedly been forced off the road and into a guardrail on Hwy 66, just north of East Dumplin Valley Road, by a maroon Ford F-150 pick-up truck.
The pick-up truck had reportedly been tailgating the RAV4 before passing and cutting in front of the vehicle.
The driver of the RAV4, 19-year old Jacob Byrd of Sevier County, TN, was transported to Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center by the Sevier County Ambulance Service.
Byrd was subsequently transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center via Lifestar air ambulance.
