William M. Bennett, Sergeant First Class with the Green Berets, Third Battalion of the Fifth Special Forces Group, was laid to rest Saturday in Walland in the Oak View Baptist Church Cemetery, following services at Memorial Chapel.
Bennett was killed along with another member of his unit in a firefight Friday, September 19 in Iraq.
He had served in the Persian Gulf War and in Afghanistan, and was well liked and respected by those he served with.
Bennett graduated in 1986 from Heritage High School and entered the Army seeking an education from the GI Bill, but stayed with the job he loved so much. He is survived by his wife, Allison and his son, Seth. Bennett was 35 years old.
