Hey Marcus,
Just wanted to let you know that I’m enjoying reading your editorials every week via the internet. Thank God for a voice of reason among all the confusion that this zoning issue is creating. The amount of wrong information that the people against zoning have is astounding. Living somewhere with strict zoning laws has made me very thankful that when I step out in my yard I don’t see a McDonald’s moon. I am also not forced to sit inside on Saturday nights because the racetrack makes it too loud to hear a conversation outside. The neighborhoods are together, the businesses are together. None are too far apart but the boundaries and separations are reasonable and allow each to exist peaceably. When I go back home and see the mish-mash that is the Seymour I grew up in, I can’t believe it. It has gone from this beautiful, sleepy little town with quite farms and beautiful scenery to something almost chaotic. The lack of zoning has allowed the charm to slowly erode away. I’m not against progress/growth/development but the only way to facilitate these things is through planning and organization. I still love my hometown, I just agree with you that it has been “loved to death.” Again, I just wanted to say “thanks” for your carefully thought-out articles and your determination to help everyone understand how zoning would benefit the area.
