Reija Raunela is heading home. The sixteen-year-old exchange student from Finland has been living in Seymour and attending Seymour High School. On Monday she headed back to Finland after a Sunday afternoon farewell party at Seymour High School. The get-together was held by her sponsor, Rotary International. Raunela was presented with a Pat Summit autographed basketball by Rotary members as a remembrance of her time here. Raunela played for the Seymour girls team while attending the school.
Since its inception in 1929, students and host families all over the world have had their horizons broadened and their lives enriched by the generosity of Rotary’s Youth Exchange program.
Raunela has traveled through Spain, Italy and Europe. This was her first time in the U.S. Her experience in Seymour will no doubt be one that she will remember for years to come.
