During the late sixties, if you had a major social event in the Seymour area, there was a high likelihood that you’d be attending it at the Bay’s Mountain Country Club. The studied elegance and charming country ambiance of the club was the perfect setting for weddings, debutant balls, and formal receptions of all kinds.
In the seventies and eighties, the club fell on hard times, and as other venues began to establish themselves the events slowed to a trickle, and then a standstill. The property fell into disrepair, and the owners decided to wait on a more auspicious opportunity to revitalize the facilities.
Thanks to Donnie Rudder and Jay Christenberry, that opportunity is now. They have partnered together to sponsor the reopening of Bay’s Mountain’s premier dining room on Thursday, May 1. The restaurant, to be called Rudder’s Greenside Terrace, will feature savory grilled menu items and delicious drink concoctions with a fabulous view of the mountains in a semi-casual setting.
Rudder will be bringing his own unique style of entertainment to patrons of the new enterprise. Classically trained as a pianist since age four, Donnie has developed a complete repertoire of stories, songs, and impersonations of famous singers and musicians to regale diners as they enjoy a hearty repast from the completely renovated kitchen.
“It’ll be a nice sit-down atmosphere where you’ll go not just for dinner but for the show too,” Donnie told The Herald. Having honed his entertainment skills with such notables as the crew of the Lawrence Welk Show and as a veteran of New Jersey’s Fifties Party and Car Show, it promises to be quite an affair.
Rudder’s Greenside Terrace will open at 10 a.m. and feature clubhouse food, including sandwiches and snacks, and feature a “19th Hole” from 4 p.m. A kids menu will be served to patrons in the pool area and will include burgers, hot dogs, pizza, and chicken and tuna salad, all made right on the premises. At dinnertime, the kitchen will feature such grilled delicacies as steaks, seafood, and ribs, with hand-dipped milkshakes and a complete line of beverages.
The Terrace will hold major events for every holiday, including a big barbecue scheduled for July fourth, complete with a fireworks show.
“It’s our goal to establish and maintain a family entertainment center where people can come for a full day of play and never have to leave the premises,” Rudder said. With a beautiful golf course, pool, tennis and the Country Inn within one-minute’s walk, the whole clan should find a great day’s entertainment and fun within the confines of Bay’s Mountain Country Club.
The restaurant is located at 685 Chris Haven Drive in Seymour, TN. They can be contacted at 579-5552 for reservations, which are recommended, or for catering weddings, birthdays, private parties, and all special events.
