Three vehicles were involved in an accident on the corner of Macon Lane and Chapman Hwy., on Thursday, March 20, at approximately 11:40 a.m.
According to various witnesses a navy blue Oldsmobile Cutlass driven by Effie Wilkerson of Seymour was heading east on Macon Lane while another vehicle, an orange Toyota pick up driven by Pat Bergin of Seymour was heading west on Macon Lane. The two vehicles collided when the Cutlass turned left into the path of the Toyota truck. The impact pushed the Cutlass into a delivery van driven by Nashville resident Leroy Jordan who was stopped at the light.
“She turned right in front of him,” stated Miranda Gadd of Seymour. Jordan, who had been sitting at the light, echoed the same response. “The truck was going straight and the car turned right into him,” said Jordan.
Ms. Wilkerson was taken by ambulance to an area hospital with undisclosed injuries. Ambulance workers on the scene said her injuries were not life threatening.
Arthur Galyon from the Tennessee Hwy. Patrol, Gary Kent from the Sevier County Sheriff’s Department, the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department and the Sevier County Ambulance Authority responded to the scene.
Traffic was down to one lane going both directions on Chapman Hwy. but traffic continued to travel smoothly.
