Pigeon Forge, TN – Seymour improved to 4-3 on the season Thursday. Lori Newman (4-2) went the distance, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out eight. Seymour got a run in the top of the second when Hannah Galyon stole second then came home on a wild throw. SHS committed three errors in the fourth to help the Lady Tigers take a 2-1 lead.
In the fifth, Lady Eagle Jenny Coker walked, loading the bases with no outs. Megan Lodari was hit by a pitch, scoring Lauren Mynatt (running for Day), to reknot the game at 2-up. Newman eyed the pitches to collect a walk and brought home Brittney Helton to give Seymour a 3-2 advantage.
Jessica Loveday scored Coker with an RBI single, Hannah Galyon brought Lodari around on a fielder’s choice then Casey Trentham used the fielder’s choice to get Newman and Mary Beth Webber (running for Loveday) home and the Lady Eagles led 7-2.
Seymour closed out the scoring in the seventh with Loveday and Channing Lodari both collecting runs on wild pitches in the 9-2 win over winless Pigeon Forge.
Seymour 8, Erwin, NC 7
The Lady Eagles rallied back in the first game of a Saturday double header in Seymour, coming from behind on their last at bat. Seymour scored two runs to erase a 6-7 deficit and take the first game from the visiting Lady Warriors 8-7.
Erwin, NC 9, Seymour 8
In the afternoon capper, Seymour started off strong. Scoring two runs in the first and adding another in the second to lead 3-0. The Lady Eagles kept swinging in the third, playing first rate hit and run ball to score five runs in the bottom of the inning for an 8-0 lead.
Erwin was not daunted by the offensive show, using a variety of pitchers to keep the Lady Eagles in check at the plate and taking advantage of fielder’s choices in the infield during the 6th to score 3 runs and close the gap to 8-7. Two more runs with the bases loaded in the seventh put the Lady Warriors up 9-8. SHS went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning as the teams split the double header.
Seymour goes to 5-4 on the year and Erwin headed back to North Carolina 3-5. Erwin’s coaches were glad of the opportunity to play Seymour, giving their team an opportunity to bond with an out-of-state road trip.
