Artists from the Knoxville Museum of Art visited Seymour Middle School as part of the “Meet the Masters” program. Sixth graders worked with the artists in preparation for an upcoming field trip to the museum.
Seymour 6th graders created totems with artist Gloria Colquitt. They were very colorful and each student told a personal story through their designs. This project was done to highlight and prepare the students for the Richard Jolley exhibit now featured at KMA. Jolley is a local (Knoxville) glass artist.
Other sixth graders painted with artist Anna Marie Gundlach. The students created original landscapes in preparation for seeing the exhibit at KMA: “A Century of Progress: 20th Century Painting in Tennessee.” This exhibit highlights works that were done during a hundred year period by Tennessee artists.  Students will also get to view the museum’s permanent collection during the field trip with art teacher, Pam Cosner. Seymour Middle School sixth graders will also be visiting the Frank McClung Museum on the U. T. Campus the same day. At McClung, students will be learning about African Art, Egyptian Art, and native Tennesseeans.
