Gibbs downs Seymour soccer, 8-0

Seymour, TN – Gibbs’ soccer team put on a scoring show, in an 8-0 win at Seymour. In the first half, bad luck crept in on the Eagles as a SHS kick to the team goalie bounced off the goal post for a score against themselves. That set the tempo for the night, as Seymour played hard and maintained good possession but just could not muster any scores as good shots bounced the wrong way.
Gibbs out-shot the Eagles 25-20, statistically it was a close game, except for the score. Said one Eagle shaking his head as he left the field, “maybe we’re just not living right.”
Seymour coach Chris McCarty was just as befuddled by the outcome. “I had nothing to tell the guys when it was over, what do you say? Not taking anything away from Gibbs, we played well, but we must have had a whole season’s worth of bad luck tonight.”
Governors outman Eagles 5-1
Maryville, TN – William Blount used its depth and quickness to kick the Eagles while they were down Monday night. SHS didn’t appear to shake off memories of the Gibbs game last week till five minutes were left in the first half and Seymour already trailed the Governors 4-0. A goal by Alex Myers with an assist by Grant Scalf brought the Eagles to a 1-4 half time deficit.
Seymour picked up its defense and played together to keep things more even in the second half, allowing one more Governor goal, but couldn’t get itself untracked offensively. Coach McCarty said about his Eagle team, “I think our guys are still lacking that winner’s instinct. Last year we went 5-12, and this year we are a better team. We just have to learn how to turn that skill into victories, and that will come.”
