Representative Richard Montgomery (R-Seymour) has been appointed to the joint oversight committee on Children and Youth as well as the House Rules Committee.
The Select Committee on Children and Youth was created in 1987 and is composed of members of each house of the Tennessee General Assembly who represent the Finance, Ways and Means, Judiciary and Education Committees, as well as the House Health and Human Resources committee and the Senate General Welfare, Health and Human Resources committee.
“I am honored to serve on this committee. The legislature should always be concerned about the status of children in this state,” he said. “I look forward to serving in a bipartisan way with my colleagues.”
The House Rules Committee writes the standing and special rules and procedures under which the House of Representatives operates. The rules govern the flow of legislation and parliamentary procedure in the House Chamber.
“I look forward to serving on the House Rules committee,” said Rep. Montgomery. “We should strive to make the legislative process open and understandable to all Tennesseans.”
Representative Montgomery serves the 12th District in the Tennessee House of Representatives. His district includes all of Sevier County. He was elected in 1998 and is serving his third term. Earlier this year he was named Vice-Chairman of the K-12 Education Subcommittee and appointed to the Commerce Committee. Rep. Montgomery is an engineer at UT Battelle and lives in Seymour, Tennessee.
