Washington, D.C. – Congressman John J. Duncan, Jr. (R-TN) announced today that the East Tennessee Friendly Access Coalition has been awarded $650,000 in funding to implement the Friendly Access Program in the Knoxville area.
The funding has been awarded by the Lawton and Rhea Chiles Center for Healthy Mothers and Babies, through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The mission of the Friendly Access Program is to decrease disparities in the health of mothers and infants by changing the culture of health care delivery systems in ways that increase consumer access, satisfaction, utilization, and outcomes.
The funding will go toward training and education of local representatives, as well as technical assistance and consultation from national experts in the fields of maternal and child health, epidemiology, and social marketing through the Chiles Center, the CDC, and the Health Resources and Services Administration.
The East Tennessee Friendly Access Coalition is composed of many regional organizations including Covenant Health, University Health Systems, Inc., the Knox County Health Department, and the March of Dimes. It competed nationally and was selected as one of three model demonstration sites for the National Friendly Access Program.
“I am pleased to announce this grant to the East Tennessee Friendly Access Coalition,” said Congressman Duncan. “These funds will certainly help to improve access to quality health care for mothers and infants in the East Tennessee area.”
