Lady Eagles fall
in consolation
After losing an overtime tilt in the semi-finals of the Sevier County Middle Basketball Tournament, the Seymour Eagles’ Middle School squad survived another overtime thriller over a scrappy New Center Rockets club.
Playing at the Seymour High School Gymnasium, the Eagles turned a 40-40 tie at the end of regulation into a 49-42 win to claim third place in the tourney.
Point-guard Derrick Lee scored seven of his nine points at the free throw line in the extra period. Brandon Silvers also added two overtime free throws as Seymour tallied all nine of their overtime points at the charity stripe. Scott Yankee scored the lone New Center overtime bucket, a five-footer with 17 seconds left.
The Lady Eagles, also playing New Center for third place, led 15-13 at halftime and 23-21 at the end of three, but saw the Lady Rockets rally in the final six minutes to steal a 33-30 win.
New Center scored the first six-points of the fourth period to take their first lead and hit their free throws down the stretch to pick up a 33-30 victory and claim third place.
